Ski Trip 2019

In February half term 42 Year 9 students all went to Salzburger, Austria on a seven day ski trip.

We left on Friday morning (in a sea of bright pink Shottery hoodies) for a 27 hour coach journey to the hostel.  We were full of excitement for the week ahead and the journey flew buy.  After a ferry, a short sleep and a couple of movies we had arrived in Austria.

That afternoon we had a while to settle into our rooms (which we all agreed were spacious and cosy ) and unpack before we headed down the road to the ski shop, where we all got ski boots, skis, poles, and a helmet so we were ready to get started the next day.

On our first morning we all got up early and arrived at the ski resort at 9:00am where we were divided into four groups and all got to meet our instructors for the week ahead.  That day we had a brilliant three hour morning session where many students put on skis for the first time - quite an experience!

All the resorts we went to were amazing, because they had a variety of slopes varying in difficulty for all the different abilities, and loads of cool lifts leading up to some amazing views!. Every day we regrouped for a delicious packed lunch and caught up on how everyone's morning had gone.  After lunch, we had another 2 hours skiing in the afternoon, where on most days the sun came out and made skiing even more enjoyable! Every evening we had a yummy dinner, followed by an evening activity.  Throughout the week we got up to all kinds of fun things, Including going shopping and a trip to a pizza place, which was a really lovely night out. Everyone improved their skiing a lot throughout the trip; the beginners moved onto blue slopes and intermediates to red slopes, with the advanced group going down hard black runs and big jumps.  Some Olympic snowboarders were also seen on the last day doing tricks in the snow park; which definitely inspired us to improve even more!

At the end of the week lots of well-deserved awards were given out for various reasons, including Best Faceplant and Biggest Dare as well as Most Improved; followed by awards from all the instructors.   We all absolutely loved the trip - thank you to all the teachers that made it happen, we are all extremely grateful and will remember it forever.
