SGGS Alumnae

The Alumnae Society is an extension of the Shottery Family and we offer a warm welcome to all of our ‘old girls’.

With our termly newsletter, The Shottery Link, the Alumnae Society is firmly focused on revitalising connections old and new.  So whether you left fifty years ago or fifty days ago, welcome back!  No matter where you go in life, you will always be a Shottery ‘Old Girl’ and as such, part of our ever-growing family.

We aim to encourage and provide opportunities to make new memories with old friends at reunions and events, or perhaps revisit past times with faces from yesteryear over an old girls’ dinner.  As well as career-boosting network opportunities for our newer members, there are plenty of occasions for longer-standing members to come back to visit and tread the lawns and stairs you will remember so well.

Getting In Touch

The Alumnae Society have a presence on the below social media, so do go and have a look!

If you would like to get in touch with us, you can email directly to alumnae@sggs.org.uk.  Perhaps you have a memory you’d like to share, an old photograph for inclusion in our correspondence, a classmate to get back in touch with, a reunion event to organise, an event to volunteer for, an offer to come and speak to our current girls – the possibilities are endless!

Please do let us know if your contact details change by dropping an email.

On the day….

You are most welcome to bring a bottle with you to share with old friends!

Do you have any photographs from your days at school you'd be happy to share? Do please bring them along with you, as we'd love to see them.  It might be the first time you have been back to the school since you've left, and much will be as you remember, but there are also new buildings, including an extension to the teaching block, which houses a new library and classrooms, plus extensions to the practical block and the admin block... there’s a lot to see…but it's still very much the school you attended!

As a memento of the day, memorabilia will be available, such as the Shottery mugs, coasters, pens and our ever popular Shottery Bears!

We are really looking forward to seeing you all - so please spread the word!

Diana Brownhill - Head Girl's Honours Board

You will remember from your days here at school, that we place a lot of value on recognising achievements – big and small – across all areas of life.  This year at our Year 7-10 Celebration Afternoon, we heard from girls who have taken up new instruments, tried new sporting activities, raised money for charity, climbed mountains, represented their sport at regional and national level, and much, much more.

We firmly believe that to recognise achievement is to encourage effort and productivity.  With this in mind, we have realised that we could do more to recognise our Head Girls.  It is an extremely valuable role and requires reliability, commitment and confidence, along with a well-balanced approach to school life.  The girls who have held this position over the years have done an incredible job and the school is keen to have a permanent reminder of who they were. They are inspirational year on year – do you remember yours?

When Diana Brownhill was the Chair of the Shottery Alumnae Society , she often talked about the idea of a Head Girl Honour Roll, as a reminder of the school’s history and to inspire others to want their name placed on there alongside the alumnae post holders. When the new Hargreaves building was opened, she even went so far as to identify the exact wall in the Hall where it would look best!  When she passed away, we were approached by a large number of our alumnae to ask how they could contribute to something in Diana’s memory, and after much discussion, we have decided that the Head Girl Honour Roll in her name will be a fitting and constant reminder of Diana’s presence in, and love for, our school.

If you are one of our alumnae who would like to contribute to the fundraising for this venture, we would be very grateful to receive a cheque made out to Stratford Girls’ Grammar School with the contribution form alongside it (download below).  We are hopeful that we will be able to raise enough money to purchase the board and have the signwriting done with every Head Girl’s name, and have it put up in the Hall as soon as we can. We are approaching our Diamond Jubilee, and it seems fitting that the board would be proudly on show as the school, its staff and girls -past and present–celebrate sixty remarkable years at Shottery.
