GCSE, A-Level and Post-18 Options
At SGGS, our core curriculum is strong and provides an excellent foundation for continuing on to post-16 studies. As such, students are not able to make “weak” or “inappropriate” choices as our curriculum structure simply does not allow that. The main principles for making choices ought to be that a student chooses subjects they enjoy and subjects where they are able to be successful.
Staff at SGGS will support your daughter throughout the process. Details regarding the subjects we offer and how to make choices will be published in the Options Booklet and talked through with parents at the Options Briefing during the Year 9 Progress Evening. Activities in PSHE lessons and tools available on Unifrog are also used to support the decision making process.
Sixth Form Open Evening and Futures Week in November is an opportunity to find out about all the options on offer at SGGS. Students are supported in the decision making process by one to one transition interviews to make sure that all relevant options have been considered. Further information and tools can be found on Unifrog, and drop in advice from Mrs Bradbury-Grubb (Head of Sixth Form), Mrs Pearson (Careers Coordinator), subject teachers and Heads of Houses is always available.
We provide plenty of support for the UCAS process, including UCAS Club, help with personal statements and references, and drop in advice. Information about universities, apprenticeships and gap year options are shared through emails, displays and visiting speakers. Support for Medical, Veterinary, Dental and Oxbridge applicants includes mock interviews, MedSoc, and preparation for UCAT and BMAT tests.
