U19 Netball Team Secures National Finals Spot After Historic Win

Our U19 Netball team are now West Midland Champions. This achievement marks a watershed moment for the school, as the netball team clinched victory for the first time in its history, showcasing exceptional skill, teamwork, and determination.

Our team of talented students played 6 games on Sunday. Securing a win in the qualifying match against Wrekin College in the Semi Final. The climactic final of the tournament saw the team facing off against Bromsgrove School. The team displayed resilience and composure, ultimately securing victory and clinching the championship by four goals. The elation that followed was palpable, as players, coaches, and supporters celebrated the historic achievement.

Miss Emily Dent, who coaches the team, is especially proud of their outstanding achievement:

"This U19 team is one of the best teams I have worked with. Not just in terms of their ability and skill on the court, but how they lead, communicate and care for each other off the court! Last year, this team qualified for the National Finals for the first time in our school's history, so to do this two years running is something special. The captains, Dani and Charley, are excellent role models and are the driving force behind the success.

In the West Midlands Regional Finals, every game was as tough as the next. We were up against the toughest schools from across the region, including many private schools. However, each game the team pulled together and worked for each other on court. The semi-final was the highlight of the day as we won by just 1 goal! Overall, we ended the tournament unbeaten. I'm so proud that we are U19 West Midlands Champions!!"

The school's netball team's triumph in the U19 West Midland Tournament and their subsequent qualification for the national finals is a momentous occasion that will be etched in the annals of the school's history. The achievement is a testament to the dedication of the players, the guidance from Miss Dent and the unwavering support of the entire school community.

The England Netball National Finals are taking place at Oundle School, Peterborough on Saturday 16th March. It is not known which schools will also be attending, but the team will be up against the top 19 schools from across the 9 regions in England. Now, as they prepare to represent SGGS on the national stage, we want to convey our unwavering support and encouragement. May the same spirit, resilience, and camaraderie that led them to victory in the West Midlands Tournament guide them to success in the national finals.
